What Matters…

I’ve been struggling a bit lately; I don’t mind sharing…  Ever since coming off the road, coming back to “civilization,” things haven’t felt quite right;  I’ve been somewhat at a loss to understand why.  Those feelings of unease have only increased since the end of the Holidays…

There seems to be many things vying for my attention, and most of them seem important and deserving of such.  But what is the most important; what truly matters?  One can devote a lot of time and energy to multiple endeavors, but our resources are indeed finite.  I find the older I get, the more that rings true…

This morning I was looking through some old Facebook Notes that I’ve posted over the last five or six years, and stumbled across this one I wrote during another trying time in my life.  It reminded me of what matters most and how to evaluate all lesser things.  Maybe it will be a help to you as well…

WHAT MATTERS:

Your feelings do not matter; they may change three times before you finish reading this post… Your circumstances do not matter; some are utterly beyond your control, and some you could change today if they really did matter… There are many things that we believe matter, and some may indeed matter, for awhile…

But what really matters; who knows, who can say? If you really think about it, only three things are going to last forever; only three things are eternal, therefore in the end, only three things truly matter…

1) God’s Word: for by it, we and all things exist, by it we know Truth, by it we have Life…
2) God’s World: the things He has made; People, the Earth, and the systems that sustain them…
3) God’s Will: His purpose, His plan; the way the world truly is, the way things truly are and will be…

Be sure that what you make important, is important to God; that those things you value most truly have value in light of  that reality. Plug your hopes and dreams into those three things that God values most; and filter your ambitions and feelings through them.

If you will, then wherever it is that you go, and whatever it is that you do; it will truly matter…

  1. This blog post is very fitting for the randomness that flits thru my head. Another great article to keep things in perspective.

    1. Thank you Connie; we all struggle to understand how and where to direct our energy and resources. I’m glad it was a blessing!
